LOS ANGELES, April 8: Country music singer Morgan Wallen was arrested overnight in Nashville on felony charges after allegedly throwing a chair from a downtown rooftop without a legitimate purpose, according to police.

Wallen, 30, was booked into jail early Monday morning on three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct, the Metro Nashville Police Department reported.

The arrest stemmed from an incident late Sunday night when two police officers, stationed in front of Chief’s Bar in the city’s entertainment district on Lower Broadway, witnessed a chair falling from above and hitting the street about three feet away from them, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by USA TODAY.

Bar staff members informed the officers that Wallen had thrown the chair, and video footage reviewed by the police showed Wallen “lunging and throwing an object off the roof,” the affidavit stated.

Chief’s Bar, a six-story building owned by country music singer Eric Church, was the location of the incident. Witnesses told police they observed Wallen pick up the chair, throw it over him, and laugh afterward.

Wallen was arrested on reckless endangerment charges because his actions endangered the two officers in the area, according to police. Additionally, he was charged with disorderly conduct for creating a hazardous condition without a legitimate purpose.

Online records from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office indicate that Wallen was released from jail around 3:30 a.m. local time after posting a $15,250 bond. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

In a statement issued to USA TODAY through his representatives, Wallen’s lawyer, Worrick Robinson, confirmed the arrest and stated that Wallen is “cooperating fully with authorities.”

The incident adds to a string of public controversies involving Wallen. In February 2021, the singer faced backlash after a video surfaced showing him shouting a racial slur in Nashville. Wallen subsequently apologized, acknowledging the disappointment he caused to those close to him and expressing regret for his actions.
