Country Music Legend Dolly Parton Dies at 80

NASHVILLE, Aug 25: Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, her family announced Tuesday, bringing to an end the life and career of one of the most influential figures in American music and entertainment.

Parton's nephew Bryan Seaver announced her death in a video shared on social media, speaking on behalf of the Parton and Owens families. He said the family was grieving, but described Parton as someone who had "lived in the light" and whose influence opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers.

The cause of death was not immediately disclosed. Parton had spoken publicly in recent days about health problems and said she had been dealing with health issues that she had neglected while caring for her husband, Carl Dean, before his death in March 2025.

Known worldwide as the "Queen of Country Music," Parton built a career spanning more than six decades. Her powerful voice and distinctive songwriting produced some of the most enduring songs in popular music, including "Jolene," "9 to 5," "Coat of Many Colors" and "I Will Always Love You."

Beyond music, Parton established herself as an actress, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She starred in films including 9 to 5 and Steel Magnolias and founded Dollywood, the Tennessee theme park that became one of the state's best-known attractions.

Her philanthropic legacy was equally significant. Through her Imagination Library, Parton helped provide books to children, while her charitable work and support for education earned her widespread admiration beyond the entertainment industry.

Parton earned numerous honors during her career, including multiple Grammy Awards and inductions into the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She also became one of the world's best-selling recording artists, with more than 100 million records sold.

Her death comes just months after the passing of Carl Dean, her husband of nearly six decades, who died in March 2025. Parton had spoken openly about the impact of his death and the toll it had taken on her health.

Parton's death marks the loss of a towering figure whose influence extended far beyond country music, leaving behind a legacy spanning music, film, business and philanthropy.
