The Municipal Council, chaired by Abdullah Al-Mahri, in its regular session.
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14: The Municipal Council, chaired by Abdullah Al- Mahri, held its seventh regular session for the fourth term on Monday. The council approved the following:
- Request of the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART) to create an entrance from King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Road to serve South Sabahiya,
- Request of the Ministry of Public Works to allocate the site of the wastewater treatment plant for South Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential City,
- Request of Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) to relocate the fuel filling station in the southeastern part of Sabah Al-Ahmad residential area,
- Request of the Ministry of Education to reorganize public schools in Block Four in Ahmadi,
- Request of KNPC to create a temporary road linking the intersection of Al-Liyah Road and the site of the new fuel depot project in Mutlaa,
- Request of Kuwait Fire Force (KFF) to allocate a temporary site for Shuwaikh Fire Station in the Second Shuwaikh Industrial Area along the Fourth Ring Road,
- Request of the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy to allocate a secondary station site in Block Two, Rawda.
Council member Abdullah Al-Anzi praised the unanimous approval of the request of the Ministry of Public Works to allocate a site for a wastewater treatment plant in South Sabah Al-Ahmad residential area, measuring 640,000 square meters. He pointed out that the unanimous approval reflects the commitment of the council members to complete important projects, which are among the priorities in the implementation of housing projects.
Meanwhile, the council unanimously rejected the request of the Public Authority for Sports to use the old site in Block Four, Faiha as headquarters for the girls’ branch of the Deaf Club. It also rejected the request of the Public Facilities Management Company to manage, operate, and maintain the surface parking lots adjacent to Kuwait Credit Bank in Block 11 in Al-Qibla, behind the Kuwait Municipality site. It dismissed the complaint submitted by residents of Khaitan regarding the alleged violation of private housing laws by the Indian community in Blocks 5 and 10 in Khaitan. It responded to the question of Abdul Latif Al-Dai regarding the regulation of refrigerators spread in some areas.
Moreover, the council approved the following:
- Recommendations of Jahra Governorate Committee regarding the question of member Abdullah Al- Enezi about the locations of the tree belt planned for implementation in Mutlaa Residential City, such as the immediate removal of all obstacles, including rubble and waste that fall within the jurisdiction of the Municipality, to expedite the implementation of the project.
- Recommendations of the Environmental Affairs Committee regarding the immediate issuance of new cleaning contracts in accordance with the Municipal Waste Management and Public Hygiene Regulations. These recommendations include the executive body’s efforts to raise awareness and management of solid municipal waste in Ahmadi Governorate and the southern areas, in accordance with the waste specifications, both quantitatively and qualitatively, to guarantee the success of the treatment project in the future treatment site in Mina Abdullah. This is in addition to the preparation of an intensive and advanced awareness program for all governorates and regions within the scope of the future treatment sites.
- Recommendations regarding the Fourth Ring Road maintenance contract.
- Recommendations emanating from the minutes of the first workshop regarding the specifications and uses of recycled materials.
On the other hand, following are recommendations regarding cleaning work in cities and suburbs:
1. The Municipality should coordinate with governorate councils to lay down a plan to educate and raise awareness among waste sources about the correct procedures to be followed when disposing household waste.
2. Require contractors with valid contracts to maintain the cleanliness and maintenance of containers, keep them in good condition, and clean them throughout the contract term. They should also be washed every three days, disinfected, and sprayed with pesticides and disinfectants throughout the contract term, as stipulated in the contract.
3. Take the necessary measures, in accordance with Ministerial Resolution No. 354/2023 on the Municipal Waste Management and Public Hygiene Regulations, against non-compliant individuals.
4. Expedite the issuance of new cleaning contracts in accordance with the Municipal Waste Management and Public Hygiene Regulations.
5. Study the development of a new strategy for cleaners deployed in the areas or around cooperative societies.
