KUWAIT CITY, April 20: The Municipal Council approved several regulatory and service-related projects and requests in its regular session chaired by Abdullah Al-Mahri on Monday. The following were approved during the session:
■ Request of the Ministry of Finance to expand and develop the bus station of Kuwait Public Transport Company (KPTC) on the main road near Adhami station,
■ Letter of the Tourism Projects Company (TEC) about the amendment of the decision of the council on the Al-Egaila Beach development project (‘Beach Seven’), including the addition of a technical condition for the investor to submit a detailed traffic study approved by the General Traffic Department (GTD),
■ Request of the Public Authority for Sports to allocate an alternative site for the Kuwait National Shooting Club,
■ Request of the Ministry of Public Work to allocate a route for two sewage lines from the new Jahra pumping station to the North Kabad station,
■ Request of the Construction Department at the Kuwait Municipality to adopt the study on breakwaters in blocks Six and Seven in Messilah,
■ Request of the Ministry of Public Works to allocate the site of the Center for the Prophet’s Biography and Hadith Studies in Block Six, Mubarak Al-Abdullah Al-Jaber Al- Sabah for a wastewater treatment plant.
The council also adopted the recommendations presented at the coordination meeting on the minutes of the first workshop of the Environment Committee regarding the specifications and uses of recycled materials, such as holding initial coordination meetings to translate the recommendations into actionable procedures in cooperation with the relevant authorities. Another important recommendation is the formation of the National Specifications Committee, chaired by the Municipality with 12 governmental and academic bodies as members.
This committee will be in charge of preparing unified technical specifications for recycled materials, issuing an updated national guide, developing supportive legislative and regulatory frameworks, establishing a quality assurance monitoring system, and supporting scientific and technological researches in the field of recycling.
Meanwhile, the council referred to the Capital Governorate Committee a letter from member Dr. Hassan Kamal, who heads the committee, requesting that a special item in the proposed traffic management plan for Sulaibikhat Cemetery should be added to the agenda of the council. Moreover, member Abdullah Al-Hathal Al-Enezi accepted the response of the Municipality to his question about the request of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to allocate a site for the Quran Memorization Center and parking spaces in Fintas (Block 17 - Sector 2). The council approved this request in its 14th session, before the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs expressed his objection, citing the need for further study.
