Corridor to beat traffic chaos

KUWAIT CITY, April 30: Municipal Council member Fahad Musaed Al- Abduljader on Wednesday submitted a proposal to establish a strategic corridor called ‘New Ahmadi Highway’, which is parallel to King Fahad Road and Fahaheel Expressway. In a press statement, Al-Abduljader explained that he presented the proposal given the increasing traffic congestion and population density in the southern part of the country due to the implementation of major housing projects like Wafra, Khairan and Sabah Al- Ahmad residential cities; not to mention the traffic jam to and from Nuwaiseeb border. He said the proposed highway starts in Subhan through an extension of King Faisal Road (Airport Road), going towards the South to link with King Fahad Road in Julai’a or extending to Nuwaiseeb border.

He believes the highway will alleviate traffic congestion, ease movement between the Capital and southern areas, support urban expansion and future development plans, and improve connectivity between the inland and coastal areas. He stressed the need for full coordination with the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART) and the Ministry of Public Works in conducting the necessary technical and traffic studies, while ensuring the comprehensiveness of the project in terms of routes, intersections and the environmental impact. He reiterated that this project is a strategic development artery that improves connectivity between the inland and coastal areas, while supporting the national vision on modernizing the transportation system and infrastructure to achieve a balanced and sustainable development for the country.

Meanwhile, the Capital Governorate Committee at the Municipal Council, chaired by Dr. Hassan Kamal, will hold its meeting on Monday to discuss several items on its agenda. The most important item on the agenda of the committee is the amendment of the decision that the council took on July 20, 2023; approving the donation of National Real Estate Company to construct a multistorey parking building and beautify the adjacent public squares in Sharq, Block Seven. The building will consist of a basement, a ground floor, five floors and a rooftop under the regulations.

This is in addition to the proposal of council member Abdullatif Al-Da’i on the temporary allocation of a walkway in Kaifan, Block Seven.

The committee will also deliberate on the following:

  • Request of the Interior Ministry to allocate a portion of its site in G1 area( measuring 3,000 square meters ) for the main transformer station of the Ministry of Electricity;
  • Request of the Justice Ministry to renew the allocation decision regarding the land for the Family Court building in Granada, Capital Governorate, Block Three measuring 5,000 square meters; as well as the allocation of parking spaces with a total size of 4,150 square meters and amending the parking spaces in a way that does not conflict with the right-of-way of Jahra Road.
