KUWAIT CITY, Nov 25: The Public Prosecution has announced the initiation of investigations into nine cases involving human trafficking and money laundering, highlighting a troubling pattern of exploitation affecting vulnerable workers.
According to official statements, the investigations revealed that some cooperative societies took advantage of workers’ financial and humanitarian circumstances, as well as their precarious legal status. These workers were compelled to pay daily fees to carry out their jobs, while being systematically denied their legally guaranteed rights. Such practices are considered forms of exploitation prohibited under Law No. 91 of 2013, which addresses human trafficking and migrant smuggling.
The Attorney General has issued directives to form specialized investigation teams, comprising members of the Capital Prosecution and the Anti-Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Department. These teams are tasked with thoroughly studying the cases, collecting evidence, and recording statements, in coordination with relevant authorities. Protective measures are also being implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of the victims.
To date, authorities have heard the statements of 115 victims and interrogated 48 defendants, with investigations ongoing to clarify the remaining details of the cases and determine the appropriate legal measures.
The Public Prosecution emphasized its commitment to upholding the law, protecting vulnerable individuals, and taking strict action against all forms of human trafficking and financial exploitation.
