KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: Sources in the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy have revealed that the ministry plans to ease its state of alert within the next two weeks, as temperatures are expected to gradually decrease, marking the end of the summer season.

According to the sources, the past few days have seen an unprecedented surge in electricity and water consumption, with the maximum electrical load reaching 17,360 megawatts on July 13. This is anticipated to be the highest electrical load recorded this summer.

Reports from the Meteorology Department suggest that the country will not experience severe heat waves in the next five days, leading to an expected stabilization of loads at their current levels.

The sources also noted that if new record numbers above 17,360 megawatts are not recorded until the end of the summer season, the annual increase rate compared to last summer’s maximum load of 16,940 megawatts will not exceed 2.5%. This is lower than the expected increase rate of 4.5 to 5%.

The decrease in the annual increase rate is attributed to the Ministry’s strict collection of financial dues for its services and the cooperation of consumers in reducing electricity consumption during peak times, which has helped save energy. Initially, the Ministry had expected the load index to surpass the 17,500-megawatt mark.
