Council member queries about private rest houses

KUWAIT CITY, July 10: Municipal Council member Hamad Al-Medlej has sent a query to Minister of Finance, Khalifa Hamadeh, asking what grounds he relied on when signing approvals to convert private rest houses (chalets) into resorts and public warehouses. Al-Medlej tweeted on his Twitter account that the rest houses in question belong to a sheikh and a businessman accused in real estate fraud cases calling the state property is not a private estate, and we will confront anyone who tries to tamper with it.”

It is noteworthy to mention the Municipal Law has set several controls governing the procedures for granting licenses for building chalets, including that the beneficiary citizen with whom a usufruct license contract is concluded, declares in writing his desire to the Department of State Properties at the Ministry of Finance to establish a new chalet or to add, change or renovate another existing one, and sends the request after getting it signed from the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance to the Director of the Municipality, along with a copy of a license to exploit a plot of land outside the general planning line for the construction of a chalet, and a copy of the scheme approved by the state property. The law also stipulates that the application file complete with documents is sent to the Municipality to inspect the location of the chalet. By Abdel Nasser Al-Aslami Al-Seyassah, Arab Times Staff
