KUWAIT CITY, Sept 14: Several residential areas are witnessing disorder caused by mobile convenience stores, which have occupied a number of locations in these areas. They have moved from the camping and desert areas and have settled in large numbers among houses, thereby causing congestion on the internal roads as well as creating an uncivilized scenery in private residential areas, reports Al-Rai daily.

The residents of these areas have lodged complaints regarding the presence of these mobile grocery stores, which run on generators that make annoying noises. They also pose traffic risks that may result from parking on sidewalks and crowded roads. Besides obstructing traffic, this issue can constitute a real danger to everyone including the owner of the mobile grocery store and the customers who stand on the road to buy from these stores.

A number of residents told the daily that the presence of mobile grocery stores in their areas creates an uncivilized scenery. The goods, food items and beverages they sell are not monitored. Some of these mobile grocery stores sell prohibited items such as energy drinks and cigarettes to young people. These stores are also spread around in the areas in an inappropriate manner.

They called upon the concerned authorities to deal with this widespread phenomenon in residential areas, especially since many of them do not meet the health requirements and cause traffic risks.

The residents also insisted that standing on the sidewalks causes the pavements to deteriorate and break.

They stressed the need to follow up and monitor food items being sold in these stores, especially since some of these items are not authorized to be sold.

The sources highlighted the lack of a guarantee for sales safety, and lack of hygiene, as some of these grocery stores emit disturbing odors.
