KUWAIT CITY, Nov 21: Representative Hani Shams, the Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Committee on People with Disabilities, has disclosed that the National Assembly is scheduled to deliberate on proposed amendments to Law No. 8 of 2010 concerning individuals with disabilities. These amendments aim to provide numerous benefits to both individuals in this category and those responsible for their care. Representative Shams expressed optimism about the speedy approval of these amendments.

Shams stated that the committee deliberated on the suggested legislation, which involves the addition of a new Article 14 to the existing law. The discussion took place in the presence of the proposer, MP Muhammad Al-Raqib, as well as representatives from the Public Authority for People with Disabilities and the Civil Service Commission.
He clarified that the committee addressed the matter of a school exploiting parents by collecting fees during the "Corona" pandemic. He mentioned that the advisors to the Minister of Social Affairs assured them that they would bring this issue to the minister's attention and resolve it within a week.
He emphasized the presence of numerous individuals with disabilities facing challenges in securing their rights within medical committees. This highlights the need for a review of their files, with many observations brought to the attention of representatives from the People with Disabilities Authority. The hope is that necessary measures will be undertaken in the upcoming period.
He emphasized that unless these files are addressed, the committee will initiate measures to restore rights to the rightful owners and alleviate grievances for those who had their rights unjustly taken away in the previous period.
