DOHA, May 10: A commercial vessel caught fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile off the coast of Qatar, according to the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) Centre.
The UKMTO said the incident occurred approximately 23 nautical miles (43 kilometers) northeast of Doha. The projectile impact caused a small fire aboard the bulk carrier, which was later extinguished.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported among the crew.
The nature of the projectile and the party responsible for the attack were not immediately identified. The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions and increased security concerns surrounding maritime traffic in Gulf waters.
Maritime authorities are continuing to monitor the situation.
