Beneficial owner registration hits 98% as Kuwait strengthens Anti-money laundering measures.
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 13: Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Tuesday that the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection departments received 17,135 complaints through the ministry’s electronic portal and the unified government services application (Sahel) during Q2 2026. The ministry told KUNA the figures reflected its efforts to strengthen market oversight, protect consumer rights and monitor businesses’ compliance with approved regulations and requirements. Inspection teams issued 5,155 violation reports during the same period and recorded 165 licensing-related violations as part of ongoing inspection campaigns targeting markets and commercial activities.
The ministry said the inspection operations resulted in the opening of 51 shops and closure of 52 others in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory procedures. It added that its teams also handled 648 complaints received through other complaint channels, in addition to the 17,135 complaints submitted through the electronic portal and Sahel application. It affirmed that the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection departments would continue intensifying inspection campaigns, strengthening market oversight and developing communication channels with consumers. The efforts aim to ensure swift responses to complaints, safeguard consumer rights and promote compliance with laws and regulations governing commercial activities.(KUNA)
