KUWAIT CITY, July 9: The digital transformation project of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry digital (Commercial Platform) will be fully completed by 2027 and the current completion rate has reached seven percent, according to an official report. The newspaper obtained a copy of the report, stating that the total cost of the project is KD2.8 million, while its objectives include intensifying oversight, combating money laundering and terrorist financing, regulating and monitoring the sale and purchase of precious metals within legal frameworks, and automatically archiving the invoices through a smart system that ensures the collection of state revenues. The report affirmed that through this inclusive digital transformation, the ministry is keen on preventing wastage of public funds and stopping the illegal sale or exploitation of subsidized food commodities.

The project provides decision-makers with an accurate and up-to-date database that enables them to formulate the necessary corrective legislation and decisions based on realistic indicators. It will reduce operating costs, cancel licensing fees, and lead to a total transition to a paperless work environment. According to the report, the project is an effective tool for intensifying oversight of invoices issued by companies and institutions, especially those operating in the money exchange and transfer sectors.

The project includes implementing an innovative electronic system to modernize the e-auction service for companies and individuals, covering various goods, products and vehicles. The main aim is to establish a modern technological mechanism for monitoring the distribution of subsidized food items (rations) for the beneficiaries to complete their transactions online. The report pointed out that the project entails the development of a sophisticated suite of software and platforms, including four interactive and service-oriented digital platforms, as well as restructuring and automating more than 200 electronic services and training at least 500 ministry employees

Meanwhile, an official source revealed that the digital transformation project of the ministry, named ‘Commercial Platform’, will link it with other entities concerned with consumer protection, companies, individuals and commercial establishments. The source said this project is part of the ongoing technological development at the ministry, enabling individuals and companies to obtain licenses electronically.

The source confirmed that upon completion of the project, all forms of commercial fraud shall be eradicated and it shall play a vital role in improving the financial reputation of Kuwait and protecting it from suspicious activities through the electronic monitoring system.

The source added that the project provides accurate data quickly, regardless of the quantity, thus, enhancing the ability to predict local market trends. The source disclosed that the project will provide a secure flow of information using modern technologies, such as cloud computing, so the ministry, other government institutions and companies will be able to conduct accurate analyses that will help them make flexible and effective strategies. The source stated that the digital transformation project extends beyond the ministry, leading to a comprehensive technological renaissance, especially since it intends to keep pace with global markets and accelerate service delivery.

The source asserted that the digital transformation project of the ministry will support decision-making based on accurate data and identify the strengths and weaknesses of government agencies by evaluating past and present performance and forecasting future market trends.
