KUWAIT CITY, July 30: Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Permanent National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait, affirmed that protecting individuals from human trafficking crimes is no longer a matter of choice, but a national responsibility that demands unified institutional efforts throughout the year.
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed annually on July 30, Al-Sumait emphasized that Kuwait adopts an integrated strategy in its fight against this crime. This approach is based on prevention, legislation, and victim care, and is grounded in the values of transparency and accountability.
Al-Sumait noted that Kuwait remains committed to modernizing its tools and mechanisms to combat human trafficking, keeping pace with international developments and the growing challenges of the digital age. He underlined the pivotal role of community partnerships and responsible media, stressing that public awareness serves as the first line of defense and that true progress is measured by the ability to prevent harm before it occurs.
He expressed confidence that coordinated national efforts, in alignment with international standards, will contribute to creating a safe, inclusive environment where human rights are preserved and all individuals are treated with dignity.
The minister also highlighted Kuwait’s 2018 initiative to establish the Permanent National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, whose vision is to eliminate human trafficking and migrant smuggling, promote public awareness, and foster a society free of such threats.
It is worth noting that the United Nations General Assembly designated July 30 as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons to raise global awareness of human trafficking, highlight victims’ suffering, and advocate for the protection of their rights.
