Coast Guard foils bid to smuggle drugs

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: The Directorate General of Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Interior Ministry said the General Administration of Coast Guard (marine border security sector) thwarted the attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic substances into the country via sea, reports Al-Anba daily. The department pointed out a boat was spotted entering Kuwait’s territorial waters and heading towards one of the Kuwaiti islands.

The smugglers caught with the contraband

It was immediately intercepted by a patrol boat from the Maritime Formations Department and referred to the Maritime Security Department. Aboard the boat were two citizens. The men were whisked away for interrogation and admitted they were heading towards the Kubbar Island to retrieve drugs. After they led police to the area, securitymen found 3 sealed bags containing narcotic substances. The suspects and the contraband have been referred to the General Department for Drugs Control (GDDC).
