Co-op head fined in ‘power abuse’

KUWAIT CITY, April 21: The Criminal Court imposed KD 2,000 fine on the chairman of a cooperative society for abusing his power, causing losses totaling KD 196,650 to the cooperative. The Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) filed a complaint, followed by an investigation which proved the chairman improperly returned a support check from the company providing oil change, tyre repair and electricity services. He breached the regulatory protocols, such that he failed to collect the mandatory fee equal to 15 percent of the check value. By disregarding the financial entitlements of the cooperative, the defendant caused economic damage and his act is considered exploitation of his administrative authority.
