‘Clubhouse’ muting ends with brawl; Fists frame political debate

KUWAIT CITY, April 11: Yesterday dawn, Sabah Al-Salem area witnessed a violent brawl among a number of young men due to an app called “The Clubhouse”.
Sharp tools such as knives and other weapons were used in the brawl, which resulted in injuries to five quarrelers. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

According to security sources, the Operations Room of the Ministry of Interior received a report yesterday morning about a brawl involving more than 40 people in Sabah Al-Salem area. Gunshots were heard and sharp tools were used. Immediately, patrol teams rushed to the location and managed to arrest a number of those who participated in the brawl. The sources explained that the primary reason behind the brawl was that one of the individuals decided to mute another on the Clubhouse app.

While these two individuals were communicating on the app, the situation between them on the app aggravated, and they decided to meet in person to settle the matter as “men”. The two individuals appeared at the agreed location with their friends. The debate between the two sides was concerning political matters of the country.

Eventually the debate became heated until one of them decided to “mute” the other. This led to exchange of threats and words of intimidation. According to preliminary investigations, the shooter in the brawl is a detective who tried to break up the fight. Investigations into the quarrel are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding it. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior yesterday announced in a press statement that the ministry is investigating the brawl and shooting that took place in Sabah Al-Salem area in order to take necessary legal measures.
