Cloud hub gets power boost

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 2: The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) announced that the deadline for submitting bids for the tender to supply and install three main substations for the cloud data center project in various locations, along with their feeders and accessories, is on Sunday. According to CAPT, the project will be referred to the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy after the opening of the bidding envelopes for review and the presentation of a technical recommendation within 30 days. The three substations are essential infrastructure for one of the most important projects undertaken by the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA).

The project is a significant step towards strengthening the digital infrastructure and supporting digital transformation efforts in the public and private sectors, thus, solidifying the position of Kuwait as a trusted regional hub for data, computing and cloud services. Meanwhile, the ministry is currently finalizing the procedures for the construction, completion and maintenance of two freshwater pipelines (1,600 mm diameter) from the Mina Abdullah Water Distribution Complex to the West Funaitees Complex, and a brackish water pipeline (1,200 mm diameter) from the Mina Abdullah Complex to the Zour Complex, along with the associated works. If CAPT approves the tender once the necessary modifications are made, the project tender will be announced, and a deadline for submitting bids from participating companies will be set.

The bids will then be opened and referred to the ministry for review within 30 days. In a related development, two similar projects are being considered for the construction and completion of a ductile iron (1,200 mm diameter) freshwater pipeline from Al-Mutlaa to the low-cost housing area. The second project includes the construction, completion and maintenance of main freshwater (1,200 mm diameter) ductile iron pipelines from Al- Wafra Water Complex (No. 1) to South Sabah Al-Ahmad Residential City.
