KUWAIT CITY, Dec 15: Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah disclosed that the citizenship of Kuwaiti preacher Nabil Al-Awadhi has been revoked.

He added MP Kamil Al-Awadhi had pleaded on his behalf to arrange for a meeting prior to the withdrawal of citizenship since the concerned preacher accepted conditions that could have stopped implementation of the decision, reports Al-Rai daily. Al-Jarrah disclosed this recently to a journalist at a forum held in the Diwaniya of National Unity in Sulaibikhat.

He stressed that Nabil Al-Awadhi assured him at the Family Diwaniya of Al-Awadhi in Da’iya he was ready to do whatever pleases the government to rescind the decision. He noted the preacher had pledged to communicate the decision on Twitter within 24 hours and the meeting was so long to the time of Imsak (the beginning of fasting early in the morning) during Ramadan.

He said Kamil Al-Awadhi did not allow him to leave the place against his will, because they wanted him to serve as a link to broker peace with the government. Meanwhile, Al-Jarrah revealed that issuing new passports for Kuwaitis will depend on DNA test results, indicating all Kuwaitis will be requested to submit DNA test result for the national database. He also said the policy will start early next year with diplomatic passports, and it will be done at Citizens Service Centers across the country.
