Citizen acquitted of possessing weapons during wedding

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 6: The Criminal Court canceled the verdict of three-year imprisonment with hard labor issued against a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of possessing unlicensed weapons during a wedding in Taima area. The court instead acquitted him. According to the case file, the Public Prosecution accused the suspect of possessing an unlicensed Kalashnikov, guns and ammunitions, and firing gunshots during a wedding celebration in Taima area. During the court session, Attorney Mohammad Al-Salili requested the court to acquit his client due to lack of sufficient evidences against him, as the case files include only the testimony of the officer in charge of the case. The court eventually acquitted him and four other defendants while it sentenced nine other defendants to three-year imprisonment.

Man wins comp: The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Adel Al-Dousari upheld the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which ordered an insurance company to pay compensation worth KD 100,000 to a Kuwaiti citizen who was hit by a vehicle while he was standing by a roadside. Plaintiff counsel Lawyer Ali Al-Ali claimed that his client was knocked down by a car, and that traffic officers at Khaitan Command had registered the case. He explained that the first defendant injured his client unintentionally due to the faulty car of the second defendant by the roadside. The two defendants had caused material damages to the plaintiff’s car and the second defendant abandoned the car without taking necessary procedures. He based his argument on Article 53 of the Law 39/1980 concerning evidences in commercial and civil cases.

Rent money stolen: Police are looking for an unidentified person for attacking an Egyptian janitor with a knife and stealing KD 3,200, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added, the money belongs to the victim’s employer and believed to be rent collected from tenants. In his complaint to the police, the victim said the suspect approached him and pretended he was looking to rent an apartment.
