KUWAIT CITY, Jan 27: Customs inspectors at the Nuwaiseeb border crossing successfully foiled two separate attempts to smuggle a large quantity of cigarettes during exit checks on two vehicles. The operation is part of the Customs Department’s ongoing efforts to curb all forms of smuggling.
According to the department, the two vehicles raised suspicion during routine inspection thanks to the vigilance and precise field monitoring of customs officers. A thorough search revealed the cigarettes cleverly hidden inside the vehicles’ tires in an attempt to evade customs procedures.
Officials reported that a total of around 1,400 cartons of cigarettes were seized, divided between the two vehicles, which were being used to smuggle the goods out of the country. Legal action was taken in both cases, and two separate seizure reports were filed and referred to the relevant authorities for further investigation in line with applicable laws.
The General Administration of Customs reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening border control and enhancing security and inspection procedures. It also stressed that customs officers will firmly confront all smuggling attempts that pose a threat to national security or the country’s economy.
