MUSCAT, Aug 22: Omani authorities have arrested a Chinese woman at Muscat International Airport after she was allegedly caught trying to smuggle more than 12 kilograms of marijuana into the country.
Customs officers discovered during a routine baggage inspection that they found the drugs were tightly concealed in her personal luggage. Officials later confirmed the haul weighed 12.66 kilograms.
The woman was immediately detained at the scene, and a criminal investigation has since been launched. Authorities stressed the incident underlines Oman’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics and its determination to clamp down on drug trafficking at the nation’s entry points.
Oman Customs said the seizure highlights their continued efforts to safeguard the Sultanate from illicit substances, vowing to remain vigilant against smugglers attempting to slip drugs past airport controls.
