China Urges Ceasefire, Calls for Stability in Strait of Hormuz

SHANGHAI, Apr 2: China said it is in communication “with all parties” to help restore stability in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the need for an early ceasefire and renewed peace in the region.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the restoration of safe navigation through the vital waterway is a “common aspiration of the international community,” urging all sides to work toward de-escalation.

Mao attributed the disruption in maritime traffic to what she described as “illegal military actions” by the United States and Israel against Iran, adding that ending hostilities is key to restoring stability. “Military means cannot fundamentally resolve the issue, and an escalation of the conflict is not in the interest of any party,” she said.

China also confirmed it is coordinating diplomatically with multiple stakeholders, while noting that Beijing and Pakistan have jointly advanced a five-point proposal calling for immediate peace talks and guarantees for safe navigation in the strategic waterway.
