SHANGHAI (AP), Apr 8: The government of China has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, saying it will continue to support efforts aimed at stabilising the region.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Beijing supports the ceasefire but did not confirm whether China had direct involvement in securing the agreement.
“We have been advocating for peace talks and a ceasefire,” Mao said in Beijing, adding that China will “keep playing a constructive role” in efforts to promote long-term stability.
She also welcomed diplomatic efforts by Pakistan and other countries, while noting that China had also contributed in its own way, without providing details.
The comments come after China and Pakistan jointly proposed a five-point peace framework aimed at ending hostilities in the Middle East following a month-long conflict. The proposal called for an immediate ceasefire, early peace talks, protection of non-military targets, safeguarding maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter.
