China, Pakistan Urge Swift Ceasefire, Launch Five-Point Peace Plan for Middle East

BEIJING: China and Pakistan on Tuesday jointly called for an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East and urged the rapid start of peace negotiations, as both countries agreed to deepen coordination on the Iran-related crisis.

The two sides outlined a joint initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability across the Gulf and wider Middle East region following talks in Beijing between senior Pakistani officials and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Pakistan said the discussions resulted in a five-point framework that begins with an immediate cessation of hostilities and the swift launch of peace talks. The plan also emphasizes that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving the conflict.

Both countries urged all parties to avoid the use or threat of force during negotiations and called for an end to attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure, including energy facilities and desalination plants.

The initiative also highlighted the need to secure maritime routes and ensure the safe passage of civilian and commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, amid rising concerns over disruptions to global trade.

Islamabad said it is prepared to facilitate or host meaningful talks between the United States and Iran as part of broader diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.

China and Pakistan reaffirmed that any lasting peace must be based on the United Nations Charter and international law, while continuing to call for restraint and expanded diplomatic engagement across the region.
