BEIJING (AP), Apr 13: China has called for the continued maintenance of the fragile ceasefire between Iran and the United States, stressing that preventing a renewed outbreak of conflict in the Middle East remains the top priority.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during a phone call with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

Beijing said the focus should remain on sustaining the ceasefire and supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation, amid growing uncertainty over the future of the agreement.

Pakistan has been playing a mediating role between Washington and Tehran and recently facilitated rare face-to-face talks between the two sides over the weekend. However, the negotiations concluded without a breakthrough, raising questions about the durability of the current two-week truce and prospects for further dialogue.
