OpenAI has officially launched its internet-browsing feature for ChatGPT.

NEW YORK, Oct 18, (Agencies): OpenAI has officially launched its internet-browsing feature for ChatGPT, marking the return of the feature after a beta reintroduction a few weeks ago following several months of hiatus.

Historically, ChatGPT has been constrained by data up to September 2021, rendering it unable to function as a real-time search engine. However, in March, OpenAI embarked on the journey of bringing internet capabilities to ChatGPT, a move fraught with challenges due to the dynamic and uncurated nature of the live web.

In May, OpenAI started rolling out web searches using Bing, Microsoft's search engine. It was later extended to the ChatGPT mobile app in June. However, this new feature was temporarily withdrawn when it was found to display paywalled content.

In late September, OpenAI reintroduced the "Browse with Bing" feature, having refined how ChatGPT adheres to content owner instructions, promising to follow Robots.txt guidelines to ensure responsible web browsing.

Now, the Browse with Bing feature is officially available to all Plus and Enterprise subscribers without the need to toggle beta settings.

In other developments, OpenAI transitioned DALL-E 3 into beta, one month after unveiling the latest version of the text-to-image generator. DALL-E 3 is now integrated with ChatGPT, making it easier for users to request image generation without the need to switch between apps.

Users can access DALL-E 3 in beta on both web and mobile by selecting "DALL-E 3 (Beta)" from the GPT-4 tab inside ChatGPT.

These advancements signify a broader expansion strategy for ChatGPT, moving beyond pure text generation to incorporate audio and visual capabilities. OpenAI has been equipping ChatGPT with features like voice interactions and image-based queries, enabling users to interact more dynamically with the AI.

OpenAI is on a path to transform ChatGPT into a fully integrated, real-time, multimedia generative search engine.
