CENTCOM: US, Saudi Forces Strike Iran-Aligned Sites in Iraq After Drone Attacks

WASHINGTON, July 29: US and Saudi forces carried out precision airstrikes in eastern Iraq on Tuesday targeting sites used by Iran-aligned armed groups following a wave of drone attacks against US forces and Saudi energy infrastructure, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM said US and Saudi fighter aircraft struck multiple logistics and weapons sites used by what it described as Iran-backed terrorist groups.

The military operation came in response to more than 30 drone attacks over the past 72 hours that CENTCOM said were directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to the statement, the attacks targeting US forces were unsuccessful.

“US and Saudi fighter aircraft struck multiple terrorist logistics and weapons sites across eastern Iraq in a strong response to over 30 IRGC-directed aerial drone attacks in the last 72 hours. The unwarranted attacks against US forces were not successful,” CENTCOM said.

The command also highlighted what it described as a sustained campaign by Iran-aligned militias, stating that between February and April 2026 there had been more than 600 attempted attacks on US citizens and facilities in Iraq.

CENTCOM warned that the IRGC and its allied armed groups must halt such attacks or face additional military action.

“From February through April 2026, there were more than 600 attempted attacks on US citizens and facilities by Iran-aligned terrorist militias in Iraq. The IRGC and its terrorist proxies must cease these attacks to avoid further US military response,” the statement said.

There was no immediate comment from Iranian officials or the Iran-aligned groups operating in Iraq regarding the reported strikes. The extent of any damage or casualties was not immediately known.
