WASHINGTON, July 12: The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has rejected claims broadcast by Iranian state media that foreign vessels cannot pass through the Strait of Hormuz without being identified, tracked and monitored by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-Navy.

In a fact-check statement, CENTCOM said Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz, describing it as an international waterway open to global maritime traffic.

The command stressed that U.S. forces remain deployed and prepared to ensure freedom of navigation through the strategic shipping lane.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, with a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas exports passing through the waterway. The latest statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and renewed concerns over the security of commercial shipping in the Gulf.
