WASHINGTON, June 27: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Friday released video footage showing American airstrikes on Iranian military targets, following retaliatory attacks ordered after a drone strike on a commercial cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
The footage was made public hours after the US military confirmed it had launched precision strikes against Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, along with coastal radar installations, accusing Tehran of violating the recently agreed ceasefire.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out after Iran attacked the Singapore-flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely with a one-way attack drone on Thursday while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
"The unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces clearly violated the ceasefire," CENTCOM said in a statement.
The command added that Iran's actions threatened one of the world's most critical maritime trade routes.
"Furthermore, Iran's dangerous behavior undermined freedom of navigation as commerce increasingly flows through the vital international trade corridor," the statement said.
CENTCOM said US forces continue to coordinate and support the safe passage of commercial vessels through the strategic waterway, where nearly a fifth of the world's oil shipments pass.
"The US military remains present and vigilant to ensure all aspects of the agreement with Iran are adhered to, obeyed, and in full force and effect," the command added.
The release of the strike footage comes amid rising tensions in the Gulf, with Washington signaling it is prepared to respond militarily to any further attacks on international shipping or violations of the ceasefire agreement.
The Strait of Hormuz remains under heightened security as regional and international forces monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation.
