TAMPA, Aug. 17: U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces have redirected 64 commercial vessels, disabled three and boarded two as part of efforts to enforce what it described as America’s “steel wall blockade” against Iran.
CENTCOM released the figures on Monday alongside an image showing a U.S. Navy MH-60 Sea Hawk hovering over the flight deck of the USS Mason (DDG 87).
According to CENTCOM, the actions were carried out to ensure commercial vessels comply with the U.S. blockade measures involving Iran.
The command did not provide further details on the identities of the vessels, the circumstances surrounding the three vessels described as “disabled,” or the locations where the interceptions and boardings occurred.
The announcement comes amid heightened maritime tensions in the region and growing scrutiny of commercial shipping movements around Iran
