TAMPA, Jul 27: U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Monday that American forces have redirected 17 commercial vessels, disabled two ships and boarded two others since the renewed naval blockade against Iran began on July 14.
CENTCOM said the measures were part of ongoing efforts to enforce restrictions on vessels attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports. The command has maintained that ships complying with the blockade are allowed to continue their journeys, while vessels that ignore warnings or attempt to violate the restrictions face enforcement action.
The latest figures mark an increase from earlier updates, when U.S. officials reported redirecting 12 commercial vessels, disabling two non-compliant vessels and conducting two verification boardings.
The renewed blockade has added pressure on maritime traffic around the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman, key waterways for global energy shipments. CENTCOM said its forces remain deployed to monitor shipping activity and ensure compliance with the restrictions.
The operation follows heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, with both sides involved in escalating military activity across the region.
