CENTCOM Rejects Iran’s ‘False’ Claim of Downing US Aircraft Near Bushehr

WASHINGTON, May 29: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has rejected Iranian state media reports claiming that Iranian forces shot down an American aircraft near Bushehr in southern Iran.

In a statement posted on X, CENTCOM described the report as false, saying: “CLAIM: Iran’s state TV claimed Iranian forces downed a US aircraft near Bushehr. FALSE. No US aircraft were shot down. All US air assets are accounted for.”

The denial came after Iranian state television reported that a US aircraft had been destroyed in the Jam area of Bushehr Province, citing local officials. However, Iranian authorities did not provide evidence to support the claim, and no independent confirmation was immediately available.

The incident is the latest in a series of conflicting claims and counterclaims between Tehran and Washington amid heightened tensions in the region. CENTCOM has repeatedly dismissed similar Iranian reports in recent months, maintaining that all US military aircraft involved in regional operations remain accounted for.
