CENTCOM Once Again Debunks Iranian Regime's Lies That Strait of Hormuz Has Been Closed

TAMPA, Jul 31: US Central Command (CENTCOM) has rejected claims by the Iranian government that it has closed the Strait of Hormuz, calling the assertion false and stressing that the strategic waterway remains open to commercial shipping.

In a statement issued Friday, CENTCOM directly challenged the Iranian claim, saying commercial vessels continue to transit the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran does not control the international waterway.

“Once again, the Iranian government claims it has closed the Strait of Hormuz. This is FALSE,” CENTCOM said in a fact-check.

The US military command said the strait remains open for commercial vessel traffic, adding that thousands of ships have passed through the international waterway over the past four months.

The statement was issued to counter what CENTCOM described as a repeated claim by the Iranian government that it had shut the crucial maritime passage.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key international shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. Any disruption to commercial traffic through the strait could have major implications for regional and international trade.

CENTCOM's statement emphasized that Iran does not have control over the waterway and that commercial vessel transit has continued despite Tehran’s claims.

Earliers, Iranian regime said that Strait of Hormuz remains closed and transit through the Strait of Hormuz remained impossible because of the continued “aggressive actions” of US forces in the region, the IRGC-affiliated Fars news agency reported.
