AMPA, Fla., July 13: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it has completed another wave of offensive strikes against Iran, targeting dozens of military sites in an effort to weaken Tehran's ability to attack international shipping transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes, carried out on July 12, hit Iranian air defense systems, coastal radar installations, missile and drone capabilities, and small naval boats at multiple locations using precision-guided munitions.
The operation involved US fighter aircraft, naval vessels, one-way attack aerial drones and, for the first time, one-way attack sea drones, the command said.
CENTCOM said the operation was aimed at degrading Iran's military capabilities and ensuring the continued security of one of the world's busiest maritime trade routes.
"The Strait of Hormuz is a vital maritime corridor for global trade. Iran does not control it," CENTCOM said.
The command added that US forces remain fully postured and prepared to safeguard freedom of navigation for commercial shipping amid what it described as Iran's continued aggression, harassment, threats and arbitrary declarations.
