CENTCOM Calls Iran Missile Launch Toward Kuwait ‘Egregious’ Ceasefire Violation

WASHINGTON, May 28: The US military has accused Iran of committing an “egregious ceasefire violation” after allegedly launching a ballistic missile toward Kuwait, according to a statement issued by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM said the missile was fired at approximately 10:17 p.m. ET on May 27 and was successfully intercepted by Kuwaiti air defense forces before reaching its target.

The command described the launch as a serious breach of the ceasefire and linked it to a series of other Iranian military actions in the region.

According to CENTCOM, the missile launch occurred just hours after Iranian forces allegedly launched five one-way attack drones that posed threats in and around the Strait of Hormuz. US forces reportedly intercepted all five drones.

CENTCOM further stated that American forces prevented the launch of a sixth drone by striking an Iranian ground control site in Bandar Abbas.

The command said US forces, working alongside regional partners, remain on high alert and continue to defend American personnel and interests against what it described as Iranian aggression.

The allegations come amid heightened tensions despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to preserve a fragile ceasefire and prevent further escalation across the Gulf region.

Iran had not immediately responded to CENTCOM’s latest claims. The incident follows a series of recent military exchanges between the United States and Iran that have raised concerns about the stability of the ceasefire and the security of critical regional waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz.
