KUWAIT CITY, Aug 11: A security source familiar with the investigation into an Egyptian expatriate accused of stabbing two Asian expatriates in Kabad has revealed new details in the case. The victims were identified as an Indian national born in 1992 and an Iranian national born in 1957. According to the source, the accused confessed during questioning that he had not intended to target the two victims. Instead, he planned to kill a Jordanian expatriate in his forties and the man’s son over a dispute that occurred about a year ago while the accused was working for a company.
The accused claimed that the Jordanian man and his son had insulted him, which resulted in him losing his job. He also admitted to purchasing a knife, which he used in the incident on Saturday evening. The accused explained that he went to the workers’ accommodation where he had previously lived for several years. He then targeted a room he believed was occupied by the Jordanian man and his son. He entered the room through an open door and, because of the darkness, assumed that one of his intended targets was asleep on a bed. He then stabbed him several times. He was soon surprised to discover that the victim was an Indian expatriate. When the victim’s Iranian companion woke up and attempted to call for help, he stabbed him as well before fleeing the scene.
According to his confession, the accused confirmed that he had no prior relationship or dispute with either victim and that their deaths were unintentional. He was taken to the crime scene to reenact the incident. The knife used in the crime was found in the room where the incident occurred and was included in the case file. Even though the accused also admitted to using narcotics and stated that he was under their influence at the time of the crime, the source clarified that this does not absolve him of responsibility and that he will face charges of drug use in addition to the murder charge.
On Monday, the Ministry of Interior reported that the General Department of Criminal Investigation, represented by the Jahra Investigation Department, apprehended the Egyptian expatriate in his forties on suspicion of murdering two expatriates, an Indian and an Iranian, by stabbing in the desert area of Kabad. The arrest took place just hours after the crime and before the suspect could leave the country. He was apprehended while attempting to cross into Iraq through the barbed-wire fence after being spotted and stopped by officers from the General Department of Border Security. The suspect was handed over to the Jahra Investigation Department for further investigation. The suspect was transferred to Jahra Hospital for treatment of his injuries and placed under heavy guard pending interrogation. Initial investigations indicate that the crime stemmed from a financial dispute.
