NEW YORK, Oct 29, (Agencies): James Blunt, the renowned singer, songwriter, and close friend of the late Carrie Fisher, reveals in excerpts from his memoir, “Loosely Based On A Made-Up Story,” published by The Sun, that Billie Lourd, the daughter of the Star Wars icon, holds him partially responsible for her mother’s passing.

Describing his profound bond with Fisher, Blunt expressed, “I was closer to Carrie than almost anyone else in the world, except my wife.” It was with Fisher that he shared an intimate connection that would profoundly impact his life.

Blunt was by Fisher’s side during the harrowing moments when she was discovered unresponsive shortly before her tragic demise in 2017. A subsequent toxicology report unveiled a concerning cocktail of substances in her system, including cocaine, heroin, MDMA, and methadone in the days leading up to her passing. While the report refrained from pinpointing a single definitive cause of death, Lourd attributed her mother’s tragic fate to a lifelong struggle with substance abuse.

In his memoir, Blunt candidly admitted his personal failure in confronting Fisher about her substance abuse. Instead of addressing the issue directly, he chose to partake in these substances with her, nurturing the hope that he would one day guide her toward redemption. Regrettably, that day never came to pass.

Blunt wrote, “Charlie, her best friend, confronted her more directly and told her she needed to quit drugs … I took a different approach and did them with her, pretending to myself that I would guide her to redemption one day—just not today.” This choice has led Billie, Fisher’s daughter, to partially attribute blame to him for her mother’s untimely demise. Consequently, Billie Lourd has distanced herself from Blunt and no longer maintains a relationship with him.
