Cargo vessel hit by projectile in Strait of Hormuz

LONDON, May 5: A cargo vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Tuesday.

In a brief statement, UKMTO said the nature of the projectile has not yet been identified, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities added that the environmental impact of the strike remains unclear at this stage.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route for oil and trade, has seen heightened tensions in recent weeks, raising concerns over maritime security in the region.
