Cargo Ship Struck by Multiple Projectiles Off Yemen Coast, Declared Total Loss

ADEN, Aug 19: A cargo ship was struck by multiple unidentified projectiles off Yemen’s western coast, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Tuesday.

UKMTO said it received a report of the incident approximately 40 nautical miles (74 kilometers) southeast of Mokha.

The vessel was unmanned at the time of the incident, according to UKMTO. The damage sustained was so severe that the ship was assessed as a “complete constructive loss.”

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the source of the projectiles.

UKMTO urged vessels operating and transiting through the area to exercise caution and remain vigilant. It also called on ships to report any suspicious activity or security incidents to the maritime authorities.
