LOS ANGELES, Feb 6, (Agencies): Carey Mulligan finds it challenging to believe actors who assert that awards hold no significance. In a recent interview, the 38-year-old talent, born in Westminster, London, openly shared her perspective on colleagues who downplay the importance of prestigious accolades.

Speaking about her recent Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of Felicia Montealegre in "Maestro," Mulligan expressed appreciation for the recognition. She described being nominated as "the coolest thing" and emphasized the value of acknowledgment from peers. Mulligan dismissed the notion that awards don't matter, stating, "And the thousands (literally) of actors that I’ve met who say that awards don’t matter and that it’s the work that counts? They are 100 percent lying."

In "Maestro," Mulligan co-stars with Bradley Cooper, who takes on the role of Leonard Bernstein in the Netflix biopic, narrating the conductor's relationship with the Costa Rica-born actress. Intriguingly, Mulligan revealed that she has not auditioned for a role since 2014. Her role as Montealegre came about after a chance encounter with Cooper, 49, that led to him rushing her to the hospital. This incident occurred while Mulligan was performing a solo Broadway show of Dennis Kelly’s "Girls & Boys," during which a stage curtain fell on her head.

Recounting the episode on The Graham Norton Show last month, Cooper, known for his role in "Silver Linings Playbook," shed light on the unexpected turn of events that ultimately led to Mulligan's involvement in "Maestro."
