Video footage captures a daring car thief driving off with an elderly woman still in the car.

LONDON, April 13: In a shocking incident captured on video, a brazen car thief stole a luxury vehicle while an 89-year-old blind and disabled woman remained seated inside. The perpetrator, identified as David Stephenson, aged 51, swiftly sped off in the black SUV, disregarding the vulnerable passenger's presence.

The incident occurred in Ashton-under-Lyme, Greater Manchester, on January 6 of this year. The victim's daughter had driven her elderly mother, who also suffered from dementia, into town to complete errands. Upon arrival, the daughter left the engine running to maintain heating inside the vehicle, ensuring her mother's comfort while she briefly visited nearby shops.

However, in a matter of moments, Stephenson took advantage of the opportunity. Seizing the chance when the car was momentarily unattended with the key still in the ignition, he climbed into the driver's seat and drove off, showing no concern for the elderly woman still seated inside the vehicle.

The family of the victim described her as "terrified" during the ordeal, as captured by the shocking footage. The incident underscores the vulnerability of leaving vehicles unattended, particularly in public spaces, and serves as a cautionary tale for others.

Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to apprehend the suspect and ensure justice for the victim and her family.
