ISTANBUL, June 14: Three people were injured after a violent collision between two cars at an intersection in Istanbul’s Maltepe district triggered an explosion and fire, turning one of the vehicles into a fireball, local media reported.

The accident occurred around 02:00 a.m. on Turgut Özal Boulevard in Yalı Mahallesi when vehicles driven by Enes E. and Efekan Y. collided at an intersection. The impact caused one of the cars to veer off and subsequently burst into flames following an apparent explosion.

Emergency services, including health, fire, and police teams, were immediately dispatched to the scene after the incident was reported. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control while medical teams provided first aid to the injured.

Three individuals — the two drivers and a passenger identified as Furkan Ş. — were injured in the crash. Another person in the vehicle, Burak Can A., was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

All injured persons were transported to the hospital for further treatment after initial emergency response at the scene.

The dramatic moment of the crash, explosion, and ensuing fire was captured second-by-second on a helmet camera worn by a motorcyclist who was waiting at a red light nearby. The footage showed the impact of the collision, followed by a sudden burst of flames engulfing one of the vehicles.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, while the recorded video is expected to play a key role in reconstructing the sequence of events.
