CAPT greenlights tender to replace transformers at Salmiya substation

KUWAIT CITY, April 18: The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) has approved a tender for the replacement of four transformers at the Salmiya “W” substation, as part of the Ministry of Electricity and Water’s ongoing efforts to upgrade its infrastructure and keep pace with urban expansion. CAPT approved the ministry’s request to replace the transformers as part of plans to enhance operational efficiency in the densely populated Salmiya area. The tender is part of the ministry’s efforts to develop the electricity network and meet rising demand, particularly during peak summer periods, driven by population growth, urban development, and increased power consumption.

The project involves replacing four transformers with newer, more efficient units to reduce the risk of unexpected outages and improve electricity supply quality and grid stability in Salmiya and surrounding areas. The work has been classified as a priority emergency project by the ministry, given its importance in ensuring service continuity and strengthening the readiness of the electrical network to meet future demand. The tender is expected to attract competition among companies specializing in energy and infrastructure, as the ministry seeks to select the most suitable technical and financial offer to ensure implementation according to the highest standards within a defined timeframe. The Ministry of Electricity and Water continues to carry out a series of development projects and routine maintenance works in various governorates, aiming to enhance grid efficiency and improve service quality.
