KUWAIT CITY, June 18: The Cancer Aware Nation (CAN) campaign launched its annual skin cancer awareness campaign under the slogan, “Your Skin is Your Health, Take Care of It,” in order to raise public awareness on the risk factors and promote prevention. Chairman of CAN Board of Directors Dr. Khaled Al-Saleh disclosed that skin cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer through simple and effective preventive measures. He cited excessive sun exposure, especially during peak hours, the use of tanning beds, and repeated sunburn as among the most common risk factors.

Al-Saleh explained that health awareness is the first line of defense against skin cancer, indicating that using appropriate sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, hats and sunglasses, and avoiding direct and prolonged sun exposure will reduce the risk of developing the disease. He added that CAN continues its year-round efforts by organizing awareness campaigns, lectures and events in health centers and hospitals, in addition to disseminating awareness messages through mainstream media and social media platforms to raise awareness on the signs and symptoms of skin cancer and the importance of early detection. He pointed out that early detection of abnormal skin changes like the appearance of new moles or changes in the size, color or shape of existing moles improves treatment outcomes and increases the chance of recovery, while emphasizing the importance of consulting a doctor upon noticing abnormal changes. He affirmed that CAN remains committed to its educational and humanitarian role by providing reliable health information based on scientific evidence, building a more informed and capable society for cancer prevention, and promoting the importance of adopting healthy behaviors that reduce the risk of developing skin cancer.
