Camp subletting targeted: Municipality cracks down on violating expatriates

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: Hawalli Governorate Municipality Branch’s Cleaning and Road Occupancy Department Director, and Chairman of the Spring Camps Committee, Faisal Al-Otaibi, has officially initiated legal proceedings against expatriates found subletting camps, whether licensed or unlicensed. Despite successful inspection campaigns leading to a noticeable reduction in camp violations, expatriates persist as the primary offenders, particularly in neglecting to apply for camp licenses.

In a statement to Al-Rai, Al-Otaibi disclosed that the current season has seen a surge in the number of licensed camps, reaching 1,300, a significant increase compared to the previous year’s count of 900 licensed camps. The municipality remains committed to ongoing licensing processes, welcoming applications from citizens and expatriates interested in establishing camps.

The move to prosecute those subletting camps aligns with the municipality’s efforts to regulate and monitor camping activities, ensuring compliance with licensing requirements and maintaining a balance between residents and the environment during the camping season.
