Cameras Coming to Kuwait Parks to Stop Vandalism

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19: As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen security and improve safety in public facilities, the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources has announced plans to install surveillance cameras in public parks across Kuwait. The initiative aims to monitor visitor activity, deter inappropriate behavior, and prevent vandalism or damage to public property.

Informed sources indicated that the project is currently awaiting approval from the relevant authorities to secure the necessary budget, with implementation expected to begin next year. The initiative forms part of a broader strategic plan to enhance the management, maintenance, and overall environment of public parks nationwide.

The sources emphasized that the behavioral responsibility of park visitors is a critical factor in maintaining these facilities, noting that many challenges—such as littering and property damage—arise from individuals failing to adhere to cleanliness rules and respect public property.

The authority pointed to the successful pilot project at Shuwaikh Beach, where the installation of surveillance cameras significantly reduced vandalism and improved overall cleanliness. This success is now being used as a model for expanding camera monitoring to all public parks, particularly in response to complaints from maintenance companies about vandalism, tree cutting, and damage to facilities such as restrooms and irrigation systems.

In addition to the surveillance project, the authority is advancing several new development and beautification initiatives. These include the construction of new public parks in emerging areas such as Sabah Al-Ahmad City, Jaber Al-Ahmad City, and Abdullah Al-Mubarak Area, reflecting ongoing efforts to expand Kuwait’s green spaces and enhance the quality of public recreational areas.

The Public Authority stressed that these measures aim not only to protect public property but also to create safe, clean, and enjoyable environments for residents and visitors, reinforcing the importance of responsible use and community cooperation in preserving Kuwait’s public spaces.
