KUWAIT CITY, Feb 24: A theft complaint that began with a stolen vehicle in Hawalli quickly unraveled into a startling arrest after Criminal Security officers tracked down the suspect ( a government employee) through surveillance footage and a hasty bank withdrawal.
The case came to light when an expatriate reported that his car had been stolen, along with his wallet containing KD 90, civil ID cards for himself and his family, a bank card with the PIN written on the back, and a food supplies list ( rice, oil, milk, and chicken ) gifted by a Kuwaiti friend. Within 30 minutes of the theft, the victim received a text alert: KD 65 had been withdrawn from his account at a cooperative society branch.
Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department moved swiftly, tracing the transaction through security cameras that captured the suspect inside his vehicle. The CCTV footage led authorities straight to the accused, a citizen employed at a government agency.
Confronted with the evidence, he confessed not only to stealing the car and withdrawing the cash, but also to taking the food supplies and handing them over to his family for personal use.
Authorities have since closed the case following the arrest, while security officials issued a stern warning to the public: never store Bank Pin number inside wallets or write them on bank cards, as doing so leaves accounts dangerously exposed to theft.
