WASHINGTON, May 16: US President Donald Trump has sparked fresh speculation over tensions with Iran after posting a series of messages and visuals on Truth Social suggesting a possible military escalation.
In one post, Trump shared a graphic depicting himself on a warship in rough seas with the caption “It Was The Calm Before the Storm,” alongside imagery of naval forces and vessels bearing Iranian flags nearby. In another post, he published an animation showing a US warship targeting an aircraft marked with the Iranian flag, in which he is heard ordering: “Okay, we have it in our sight. Fire!”
The developments come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions with Iran, with analysts closely watching signals from Washington and Tehran. Jon Alterman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies told an Iran International town hall that Iran’s leadership appears more inclined to “hunker down and wait out this president, rather than strike a deal,” indicating a cautious stance rather than immediate confrontation.
