CAIRO, Egypt, Sept 28, (Agencies): A university employee opened fire on her colleague inside the Youth Welfare building within the Faculty of Archaeology at Cairo University on Wednesday morning. The employee tragically lost her life on the spot.
Following the notification of the authorities, the Public Prosecutor's Office went to the scene to conduct an examination of the incident. Meanwhile, the suspect managed to escape after firing the shots.
Investigations carried out by the Public Prosecutor's Office, as reported by the official newspaper "Al-Ahram," revealed that the victim was 29 years old and worked as a sports specialist at the Faculty of Archaeology, Cairo University. The suspect, a 30-year-old colleague from years ago, had proposed marriage to her multiple times, but she had consistently rejected his advances.
Further investigations indicated that the suspect, who had worked as a youth welfare specialist, had set fire to the victim's car five years ago. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Faculty of Agriculture but continued to send threatening messages to her, leading to his expulsion from the university due to misconduct, according to the newspaper.
The newspaper also reported that the suspect managed to access one of the offices, where he confronted the victim, holding a firearm in his hand. He fired six shots at her, instantly ending her life. She was transported to the university hospital, but unfortunately, she did not survive, and her body was taken to the morgue.
Security personnel are intensifying their efforts to swiftly apprehend the perpetrator, as reported by the newspaper.
